Special Projects:

Our Manor

A Regeneration project in partnership with Newham Housing and Shillam and Smith Architects.

Wizard Stories, worked with children from four schools, Cumberland Secondary, Hallsville Primary, Kier Hardie Primary and Royal Docks Community School to explore their perceptions of what regeneration meant to them, how it might affect them. Using analogy we created four unique stories that mirrored the coming changes, battling giants, erupting volcanoes, vengeful dragons, the images spoke for themselves.

Then, using the story as an imaginative springboard, we brainstormed what structures, facilities would improve the area…the practicals were there: “more CCTV, parks and green spaces, water, bigger houses”, but there were surprises too: “adult and teenager free zones, a theatre on every street, a giant slide to cross the A13!”

Our aim at the beginning of this process was to create an open, honest and safe environment for children to express themselves truthfully. To discover their aspirations, hopes and dreams of their future environment and discuss how our surroundings can influence our mood, behaviour and achievements, After all, it’s the children who will witness the long term effects of this regeneration, therefore we hope they feel that their voices are heard.
