Chapter 4 - page 4

Glenda stood up ruffled her feathers, cleared her throat, and started to tell Tony the whole story of the farmer’s wife, the film director and Mohammed, the horrible chicken killer. Tony listened and took notes, he seemed to be very interested in the fact that Glenda had had to defend herself from all these tyrants. ‘Listen Glenda, I am off on my holidays at the end of this week and I’d like you take care of the country while I’m away. What do you say?’

Before Glenda had time to answer the Prime Minister rose to his feet, waking up Sox with a start. Picked up a red telephone on his desk, the Prime Minister pressed the only button on the phone. Everyone waited to see whom he was calling. ‘Your Majesty’ said Tony, ‘It‘s your Prime Minister here. As you know I an off on my holidays at the end of this week, and as you know there is no one that we know of who has the capabilities of running the country whilst I am away.’

There was silence. Then Tony said in a triumphant voice, ‘Well problem solved Ma’am!’ and he proceeded to tell the Queen all about Glenda. When he put the phone down, he was beaming at Glenda from ear to ear. ‘Well you can have the job if you are willing to take it and can start Monday’ Glenda thought long and hard for roughly two seconds and blurted out ‘Yes! Yes! Oh, yes please!’
