Chapter One

The Stranger

It was early one Saturday morning on a small farm deep in the heart of the Norfolk countryside, the day seemed like any other day on the farm, the cockerel was crowing the farmer was stirring and the sun was about to rise. At one end of the old farmyard there stood a very large chicken coop, home to a whole battery of hens slowly waking with a cluck and a chirp and a flutter of wings. In one corner of the coop lay a very large chicken called Glenda, now Glenda was a bit of a rebel compared to the other hens, as she would peck the farmers wife when she tried to collect the eggs. Glenda would think, ‘They are my eggs and you can’t have them!’ This annoyed Glenda a lot, she looked at it as theft of her rightful property…little did Glenda know there was an even bigger shock to come that day.

Glenda shook herself, fluttered her feathers, and decided to go and have a chat with some of the other hens. ‘Well,’ squawked Gloria, a slightly smaller but prettier hen than Glenda, who was partial to a bit of gossip. ‘I heard that there is a man coming here today to look at us for some new project called 'Chickens R Us' and I’m going to preen myself so I look attractive, and hopefully get some big part in a TV show or even a film or better still I could end up in….’
